Sedimentary Geology &
Earth Systems Evolution

The Current Team:
Dr Sean Newby (Postdoctoral Fellow; PhD Florida State, 2023)
Sean's research focuses on ancient ocean chemistry and paleo-environmental evolution, particularly in response to climate change & Earth system perturbations. His current work is centered on oceanic records of the transition out of the the Late Paleozoic Icehouse, with fieldwork targeting Permian strata of Thailand.

Yonghui Qin (PhD student; BS, M.S., Sun Yat-sen University)
Yonghui investigates mechanisms that enhance carbon sequestration in costal environments, particularly mangroves. Her fieldwork spans Hong Kong and the Philippines.
Giancarlo Defrancesco (PhD student; BS Western Washington)
GC investigates chemical weathering processes and carbon cycling. His field investigations includes the Indo-Burma Range of eastern India, Philippines, Malaysia Borneo.

Yuke Li (MPhil student; BS Sun Yat- sen U.)
Yuke studies Proterozoic sedimentary successions of the North China craton in the context of crustal evolution and plate-reconstructions.
